Stolt has designed a reusable, mulit-purpose pull-in system that has many applications. Stolt's Guillaume Penel discussed some to them at the Offshore West Africa conference in Nigeria.

The company designed a pull-in system specifically to be used on steel catenary risers (SCRs) for theBonga FPSO. Penel explained how the system components were fit together for the Bonga SCR pull-in and illustrated the varied configurations possible with the system.

The pull-in system was used to install an export line in its second application. Future uses include umbilcal and mooring line installation, Penel said.

Penel outlined the testing procedures followed to ensure system reliability, noting that Det Norske Veritas observed and verified elements of the testing process.

"Testing enabled Stolt to troubleshoot and to be more efficient offshore," Penel said. Penel suggested that on the basis of success to date, there are many future applications for the technology.
