CAIRO, Egypt Eni has signed a memorandum of intent (MoI) to collaborate on emission-reduction technologies, including gas flaring reduction and gas valorization, with the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Co. (EGAS).

The two companies plan joint studies to identify opportunities to reduce emissions in Egypt’s oil and gas sector, developing a “master plan of initiatives leading to additional gas valorization,” Eni said.

CEO Claudio Descalzi, during a meeting with the country’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, also discussed the company’s current exploration campaign, which suggests the potential to raise exports quickly by using spare capacity at Eni’s facilities on the Egyptian Mediterranean coast.

The parties also discussed decarbonization of the Egyptian energy sector, including carbon capture and storage.
