    Trendsetter equipping Well-Safe rig for P&A interventions

    Well decommissioning services provider Well-Safe Solutions is working with Trendsetter Engineering to equip the Well-Safe Guardian semisubmersible rig with the Trident intervention system.

    ABERDEEN, UK — Well decommissioning services provider Well-Safe Solutions is working with Trendsetter Engineering to equip the Well-Safe Guardian semisubmersible rig with the Trident intervention system.

    Trident is described as a single system that can be configured for hydraulic intervention, riserless light well intervention and open water intervention riser operations.

    Well-Safe will have exclusive access to the system in the UK for well plug and abandonment (P&A).

    This is the first owned rig that the company has converted to perform exclusively well decommissioning tasks. Well-Safe envisages the main application for the Trident system as being in open water intervention riser mode, providing secure mechanical access for wireline or coiled tubing operations.

    Earlier this year the company signed a contract to P&A 14 wells on the UK continental shelf from March 2023.
