TIMOR GAP to acquire Woodside stake, taking full control of Greater Sunrise project

The state-owned company will pay up to $200 million for Woodside’s 33.4% interest in the Greater Sunrise project, a move TIMOR GAP says will accelerate development of the long-delayed gas and condensate fields.

Why this news matters:

  • The deal could remove a major ownership hurdle and revive development of one of Southeast Asia's largest undeveloped offshore gas resources.

  • Full state ownership gives Timor-Leste greater control over project planning, infrastructure decisions, and future economic benefits from the fields.

  • If development proceeds as planned, Greater Sunrise could become a significant new source of regional gas and condensate production by the end of the decade.
