Expro completes $208-million acquisition of MPD specialist Enhanced Drilling

Expro has completed its acquisition of Norwegian managed pressure drilling (MPD) technology developer Enhanced Drilling for about NOK2 billion (US$208.4 million).

The company’s MPD and riserless mud recovery services will be incorporated into Expro’s portfolio of well engineering services.

Expro said it expected to benefit from earlier engagement in well construction design and planning, working more closely with its clients to address technical challenges, reducing operational risk, improving execution certainty and lowering overall well costs. 

When unveiling the transaction earlier this year, Expro said Enhanced Drilling would contribute about $275 million in order backlog while strengthening the company's managed pressure drilling capabilities.

Enhanced Drilling works mainly in the North Sea, Caspian and Gulf of Mexico. 

Expro CEO Michael Jardon said the acquisition should help accelerate deployment of Enhanced Drilling's technologies in regions including West Africa, Latin America and Asia Pacific.
