MOSCOW – The Science and Technology Center of Gazprom Neft and the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology have signed an R&D collaboration agreement.
One aim is to establish a new digital laboratory to undertake research in modeling of multiphase systems for the oil and gas industry. The team, led by Professor Andrei Osiptsov, will be based at the Skoltech Center for Hydrocarbon Recovery, managed by Professor Mikhail Spasennykh.
The main area of research for the new lab will be to model complex flows of multiphase media (oil, gas, water, solid particles) with a view to developing suitable technologies for field development at each stage, from conceptual planning to brownfield.
This will be Gazpromneft’s first joint research platform in this area with minimal use of imported IT-technologies to develop prototypes of Russian modeling software packages.
Targets include complex integrated models for fluid mechanics processes and for hard-to-recover reserves, for technologies across the upstream spectrum from drilling, cementing and clean-up to multi-stage fracturing in near-horizontal wells, flowback, and transient production regimes.
