LONDON, UK --Malta's government has approved the farm-in agreement between Leni Gas & Oil and Malta Oil concerning Area 4 in the Mediterranean Sea between Libya and Malta.

The agreement will give Leni 20% interest in Area 4, assuming the government grants the partners a production sharing contract.

In the next fortnight, Seabird Exploration'sMV Geomariner is due to start acquiring around 1,000 line km (621 mi) of 2D seismic over the acreage. The main focus will be on improving definition of several oilfield prospects identified in previous surveys. If the partners go on to drill, Leni will have the right to fund 80% of the first well, in the process lifting its interest in Area 4 to 50%.
