LONDON -- Tullow Oil Plc. says the 1N-3X appraisal well in the Shallow Water Tano block has been drilled to a TD of 3,075 m (10,089 ft). Following the results of logging , the well will not be flow tested.
The 1N-3X well tested a previously undrilled fault block in this near-shore shallow water license. The objective, Tullow says, was to determine if modern drilling techniques to reduce formation damage could achieve commercial flow rates from the low permeability Albian reservoirs encountered in previous wells. Hydrocarbon bearing sandstones were encountered in this well, but logging indicated the sandstones would not flow at commercial rates. The well has been plugged and abandoned.
Future operations in the Shallow Water Tano block will continue to focus on appraisal of existing discoveries and delineation of exploration prospects in the block, which is updip of Tullow's recent Santonian reservoir discoveries, Mahogany and Hyedua. These discoveries in the adjacent Deepwater Tano and West Cape Three Points licenses were made in June and August this year.
Tullow operates the Shallow Water Tano block with 31.5% interest. Partners include Interoil with 31.5% interest, Al Thani with 22.5% interest, Sabre Oil and Gas with 4.5% interest, and GNPC with 10% interest. Tullow also operates the Deepwater Tano license (49.95%) and is a partner in the West Cape Three Points license (22.9%).
In Africa, Tullow has exploration and production in Gabon, Côte d'Ivoire, Congo (Brazzaville), Mauritania, and Equatorial Guinea as well as a gas field development in Namibia. The company has exploration programs in Mauritania, Senegal, Cameroon, Uganda, Congo (DRC), Tanzania, Madagascar, Angola, and Ghana.
