Norway's Petroleum Safety Authority has approved Gassco's plan to perform major modifications to the H-7 compressor platform in the German North Sea.

STAVANGER, Norway --Norway's Petroleum Safety Authority has approved Gassco's plan to perform major modifications to the H-7 compressor platform in the German North Sea.
Gassco operates this facility, but the consent relates to ConocoPhillips' installation of a bypass gas trunkline around it. This will be used to take supplies from the Ekofisk field to Emden on the north German coast.
H-7 previously was used to compress gas from Ekofisk, but new technology has rendered the platform redundant for this purpose. Work on H-7 will be conducted during a planned shutdown of Ekofisk, starting around June 10.
The safety authority also has approved Statoil's plan to drill an exploration well 50 km (31 mi) north of Ormen Lange in the Norwegian Sea, in production license 281. Well 6405/10-1 will be drilled by the semisubmersibleTransocean Leader.
