DUBLIN, Ireland --Ireland's Ministry of Communications, Energy, and Natural Resources has issued a new licensing option in the north Celtic Sea to Providence Resources.

The one-year option (07/1) covers part-blocks 49/15, 50/7, 8, 11, 12, and 13, extending over a total area of 375 sq km (145 sq mi). The acreage is also adjacent to license 2/07 containing the Hook Head discovery, where Providence currently is testing a successful appraisal well.

The company says the newly offered area includes numerous significant mapped leads and similar prospects at a similar level to hydrocarbon-bearing sections in the Hook Head structure. Its partners in 07/1 are Challenger Minerals (Celtic Sea), Dyas, Atlantic Petroleum (Ireland0, Forest Gate Resources, and Sosina Exploration.
