Egyptian Drilling contracts newbuild jackup from SembCorp

Egyptian Drilling Co. (EDC) has contracted SembCorp Marine Ppl Shipyard to build a Baker Marine Pacific Class 375 deep offshore jackup rig for $201 million.

SINGAPORE Egyptian Drilling Co. (EDC) has contracted SembCorp Marine Ppl Shipyard to build a Baker Marine Pacific Class 375 deep offshore jackup rig for $201 million.

EDC is a joint venture between the Egyptian General Petroleum Corp. and the A.P. Moller – Maersk Group.

Construction will begin in the 3Q 2007 with delivery scheduled in Dec. 2009. The rig will be equipped to drill high-pressure/high-temperature wells at 30,000 ft (9,144 m) operating in 375 ft (114 m) of water.
