LAFAYETTE, Louisiana -- In 2006 Superior Offshore International recorded the lowest-ever Total Recordable Incident Rate, or TRIR, in the company's 22-year history.

"We are extremely proud of our offshore personnel," says Jim Mermis, president and CEO of Superior Offshore International. "Each and every day and throughout each and every difficult project, our more than 600 offshore personnel conduct themselves in a professional and safe manner, and our 2006 safety numbers are a reflection of that,"

Superior Offshore International's 2006 TRIR is computed by multiplying the total number of recordable cases, multiplied by 200,000 and dividing that amount by the total number of man-hours worked. Officially, Superior Offshore International's TRIR for 2006 is 1.07, exceeding the company's 2006 goal by 28%.

"Superior Offshore worked nearly 1.2 million man-hours in 2006, a 51% increase over 2005, and yet reduced its TRIR by 26%," says Billy Bratkowski, Superior Offshore
International's health and safety director. "Given the dangers inherent in this industry, our offshore personnel have earned an outstanding safety record in 2006."
