VICENZA, Italy -- Abdalla Salem El-Badri, secretary general of OPEC, visited the Socotherm Angola plant on Aug. 30, 2007. The visit, Socotherm says, was part the secretary general's four-day trip to Angola as a guest of Desidério Costa, Angola's minister of Petroleum. The objective of the visit was to evaluate the state of infrastructure development supporting oil and gas activities in Angola.
In a brief declaration to the press at the end of the visit, El-Badri said the technological level of Socotherm's Angolan facilities will be able to stimulate the progress of the oil and gas industry in the country.
Socotherm Angola officially opened May 30, 2007. It is the first and sole Angolan marine base able to serve the local market demand for offshore pipe coating and insulation, Socotherm says.
