ABU DHABI, UAE -- AlMansoori Specialized Engineering has signed a joint venture agreement with China's Hilong Group to establish a drillpipe manufacturing plant and an oil country tubular goods finishing plant in Abu Dhabi.

The JV, AlMansoori Hilong Petroleum Pipe Co., will be in Abu Dhabi. The company will manufacture drillpipe with an annual capacity of 18,000 metric tons (19,841 tons) and an OCTG end-finishing plant with a capacity of 50,000 metric tons (55,116 tons), increasing to 100,000 metric tons (110,231tons) within two years. This will be the largest technologically advanced drillpipe and OCTG end-finishing plant in the region, the company says.

When complete, the facility will specialize in drillpipe manufacturing, internal coating application for drillpipe and OCTG, handbanding on drilling tools, and OCTG finishing. The company will provide products of all API standards, including specially customized drilling tools with proprietary internal plastic coating, handbanding, and OCTG pipes to customers in the region, AlMansoori says.

Hilong is a Chinese conglomerate specializing in the manufacturing of petroleum pipe and petroleum equipment for local and international markets. The group is located in Hilong Industrial Park, Baoshan, Shanghai.

"We have enjoyed a successful working relationship with Hilong and are looking forward to bringing together our technical expertise and engineering skills," says Adel Baobaid, director of the new JV. "The newly formed company will save our customers' time, resources, and logistics as the drillpipes will be manufactured close to their operational base."
