MERSEYSIDE, UK -- Welding Units has won a $500,000 contract to supply flanges to Modec, Houston.

The order, contracted to Modec by BHP Billiton Petroleum (Americas), will see flanges, to API and ANSI configurations, installed within the Shenzi hull steel catenary riser system.

The Shenzi field development is in the Gulf of Mexico Green Canyon area in 4,300 ft (1,310 m) of water. The initial field development will consist of seven subsea production wells tied back to a TLP.

"We are proud to be associated with Modec in this venture and it is a significant coup for Welding Units given the competition for our products in the US," says Malcolm Peat, chief executive of Welding Units.
