Offshore staff

EDINBURGH, UK --Platform facilities management group Petrofac is to re-train Scottish shipyard personnel for work offshore. The project, supported by UK manufacturing union Amicus, concerns staff at Babcock International in Rosyth.

Babcock's specialties include re-fits of Royal Navy ships owned by the UK Ministry of Defense. With this sector facing cutbacks and the offshore construction sector short of skilled staff, both sides should benefit.

Petrofac will put specialists in welding, pipe fitting, rigging and other heavy engineering fields through a re-training program, before sending them offshore, probably during the May-September shutdown season.
