DHAHRAN, Saudi Arabia -- Saudi Aramco E&P will shortly open its new Upstream Professional Development Center (UPDC) in Dhahran. The complex will provide new and updated training opportunities to build employee skills from recruitment through retirement.
Aramco sees the center as providing new competencies to drive its business forward. The company is expanding operations, employing new types of technologies, capacity is expanding, and Aramco wants to speed up the transfer of knowledge from experienced personnel to new recruits.
“UPDC is designed to be a state-of-the-art practical learning center. Its major purpose is to shorten the time required for new graduates to achieve full professional competency in their field,” says Amin H. Nasser, senior vice president of Exploration and Producing.
“The center’s training programs will use intensive and immersive training techniques to efficiently bridge the gap between academic knowledge and Saudi Aramco work practices,” Nasser adds. “In addition, the center will provide continuous learning for all professionals in this era of increasingly complex and multidisciplinary work environments.”
Training will be tailored to teach preferred technologies and work flows as quickly and comprehensively as possible. The training spans eight disciplines: geology, geophysics, drilling and workover, petrophysics, reservoir engineering, production engineering, E&P facilities engineering and computer science and engineering support.
New hires will automatically be enrolled in an on-boarding program and will then have to follow a sequence of training that will last until the individual retires from the company.
Courses will be taught by highly qualified instructors who also are technical professionals. The training approach is interactive, including virtual reality “caves.”
