ABERDEEN -- Aberdeen Harbour Board has started work on its $46 million Torry Quay redevelopment.

The initial stage of the three-phase project should take 18 months to complete and will involve demolishing existing upstream berths, replacing them with 300 m (984 ft) of realigned, deepwater quays.

The new quays should be more suitable for modern and deep-draft vessels such as Subsea 7’s new 145-m (476-ft) long, 26-m (85-ft) wide DSV Seven Atlantic, which recently made its first visit to Aberdeen Harbour.

In future, the new facility could include a support base for the oil and gas industry.
