The U.S. Department of Justice and the European Commission have cleared unconditionally the proposed merger of Schlumberger and Smith International.

HOUSTON -- The U.S. Department of Justice and the European Commission have cleared unconditionally the proposed merger of Schlumberger and Smith International.

The merger remains subject to approval by Smith stockholders, scheduled to meet and vote Aug. 24. Schlumberger and Smith expect to close the merger on Aug. 27, 2010.
