Norway closes 21st round submissions

Thirty-seven companies have applied for acreage under Norway’s 21st licensing round, nine fewer than for the 20th round.

OSLO, Norway – Thirty-seven companies have applied for acreage under Norway’s 21st licensing round, nine fewer than for the 20th round.

Sissel Eriksen, director of Exploration at the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate, said there had been strong interest in the Norwegian Sea and the Barents Sea.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Energy had offered production licenses in 94 blocks and part-blocks, some of which carried restrictions relating to fishing and environmental conditions.

It is due to award the licenses in spring 2011.

The companies which applied for permits, either on an individual basis or as part of a consortium, were:
