(Venezuela)-Chevron's Latin American upstream head Ali Moshiri met with representatives from Venezuela's state oil firm Pdvsa to discuss technologies for the recovery of heavy and extra-heavy crudes.
Moshiri said during the meeting: "The extraction and efficient development of heavy and extra-heavy crudes implies an important technological challenge."
The companies met in the city of Porlamar to host what they called the first "improved recovery of heavy and extra-heavy crudes workshop."
Moshiri called the workshop, "an important exchange of experiences and intellectual capital, an important step in positioning Venezuela in the vanguard of global oil markets."
Chevron and PDVSA are partners, along with ConocoPhillips, in Ameriven, one of the four existing projects to upgrade extra-heavy crude from the Orinoco river valley into over 100,000 b/d of syncrude.
