DNV reorganizes for better service
Offshore staff
HOUSTON -- Remi Eriksen, COO of DNV, took time at the Deep Offshore Technology conference to talk to Offshore about the recent changes in his company's organization and how those changes have impacted DNV's business. "I think the results have been very positive," Eriksen said.
In Sept. 2007, DNV reorganized such that the company is segmented into two industry sectors, which, Eriksen explained, is a departure from being organized around service sectors. The two main sectors that affect the oil and gas industry are the marine sector and the energy sector, which covers varied energy sources. "The focus of the energy sector is energy in broad terms, not just oil and gas," Eriksen said. DNV is involved in wind, nuclear, and hydro power as well.
DNV has merged its verification and qualification services with the consulting and advisory services into what Eriksen called "an industry-oriented" business unit. The objective, he said, is to give a broader offering of DNV's services to the industry.
According to Eriksen, the reorganization has allowed DNV to provide a stronger offering to customers. "We have seen great results already with the type of projects we have won," he said.
A notable plus for the reorganization is the size of the business segments and the synergies that have surfaced as a result of the change, Eriksen said. "We now have a bigger footprint and a bigger reach globally."
With 40 primary locations around the world, DNV had a strong international presence before the change, Eriksen said. The reorganization now allows the company to make the most of its strengths.
"We are unique," Eriksen said, "and can compete in a different arena."
