ABERDEEN --Venture Production's capital program for this year is focused on exploration drilling to prove up new gas reserves in the UK southern North Sea.

So far this year the company has achieved a commercial discovery on the Carna structures, and has identified five follow-on prospects in the Greater Carna Area.

It has also participated in GDF Suez's Cygnus find, where two appraisal wells have proven substantial recoverable volumes in the eastern part of the field. The partners are looking to progress the first phase of the development.

Currently Venture is drilling an appraisal well on the Kew prospect, results suggesting that the reservoir contains gas-bearing sands.

Near the median line with The Netherlands, a second phase of the Chiswick gas development has been sanctioned, with two further wells to be drilled during late 2009 and 2010. In the Dutch sector, development is moving ahead of F3-FA, with fabrication of the self-installing platform under way.
