LONDON-- Northern Petroleum (UK) has been awarded two new permits, d25G.R-.NP and d26G.R-.NP, expanding its position in the Apennine-Maghreb Thrust Belt offshore Sicily.
The awards, which cover a total of 897 sq km (346 sq mi), are adjacent to six permits offshore Sicily held jointly with Shell. The licenses are also close to another Northern preliminary award, d21G.R-.NP.
“The Thrust Belt is one of four core areas offshore Italy that contain some of the greatest medium- and long-term growth potential for the company,” says Derek Musgrove, MD of Northern Petroleum. “We have already mapped several prospects of a billion barrels plus.”
