BARROW, UK -- Houston-based Gyrodata Drilling Automation has opened a new research, development and manufacturing facility in Barrow-in-Furness, northwest England.

GDA produces rotary steerable drilling systems, designed over 20 years ago by Peter Allen, a Barrow-born shipyard engineer who is now the company’s engineering director.

The company has relocated to its new location from a smaller nearby base in the county of Cumbria, and currently employs 30 personnel, with plans for future growth. Fifty of the company’s steerable systems are in service offshore and on land worldwide.
