OSLO -- Aker Solutions has opened a new $7-million subsea facility at its yard in Egersund, Norway.

The new subsea hall is tailored to handle highly sensitive subsea equipment including strict demands for cleanliness, the company says. The new facility’s first project is the delivery of the Ormen Lange subsea compression station pilot. When assembled, the 35 x 6.5 x 13 m (115 ft x 21 ft x 43 ft) pilot will weigh 1,100 metric tons (1,212 tons).

After assembly and testing in Egersund, Aker will transport the pilot to the Nyhamna onshore terminal, where it will undergo endurance testing in a purpose-built test pit.
