ASCO extends Norwegian rig logistics scope

TROMSØ, Norway – Logistics group ASCO has signed an agreement with Tromsø Port Authority in northern Norway to operate a new supply base and harbor. The base, due to be operational in mid-2013, will service rigs operating in the northern Norwegian Sea.

Construction of the new facility is under way on a brownfield site south of Hammerfest. The site will comprise 80,000 sq m (30,888 ft) of industrial space and two deepwater quaysides (more than 200 m, or 656 ft, water depth).

ASCO Norway also has signed a three-year contract to support Maersk Oil’s drilling campaigns offshore Norway. Campaigns will be supported from ASCO’s Kristiansund base at Averøy. The first rig to be supported will be theTransocean Barents, working on license 6506/6-2 (Albert) in the Norwegian Sea.
