TEHRAN, Iran -- An Iranian government official has discounted Saudi Arabia’s claim to a share of the offshore Arash gas field that straddles Iranian and Kuwaiti waters.
“It is highly doubtful that Saudi Arabia might have a share in this joint gas field,” Ali Majedi, deputy petroleum minister for international affairs and trading, told news service Shana.
A Japanese company discovered Arash in the Persian Gulf in 1962. It contains an estimated13 tcf of gas.
Iran and Kuwaitstarted talks in 2000 to settle an ownership dispute.
