HOUSTON --A radio-frequency identification tag (RFID) remained functional after a test in ultra deepwater over about four months, said Scott Shemwell, Wescorp COO, at the 2008 Offshore Technology Conference in Houston.

The RFID is a key part of Westcorp's Intelligent Field Resource Management system.

"Engineering in the field need to know more about their equipment that what its depreciation schedule is," said Shemwell. "Our solution will tell them such things as exactly where that piece of equipment is, what kind of shape it is in, whether it's even functioning at any precise moment, if it needs to go back for a rebuild, etc."

With identification, the IRFM can provide all the information stored regarding the specific item including the manual, service record, operations and maintenance data, and whatever has been tied to that tag.
