HOUSTON --Subsea engineering group MCS introduced an integrity management service at OTC for operators in the Gulf of Mexico. This is designed to help them comply with new regulations relating to risk-based integrity management of risers which the MMS will enforce around end-2008 to early 2009.

MCS has long experience in this feld advising operators in the North Sea, and has launched numerous joint-industry studies over the past few years concerning the integrity of steel catenary, hybrid, and other types of risers.

The company has also developed a software tool called ThruLife that allows operators and regulatory authorities to visualize the exact status of a subsea system, thereby gauging its suitability for continued use.

According to MCS' Chris Saunders, the company has worked with UK operators over the past 18 months to adapt ThruLife to their requirements.
