HOUSTON -- Global Satellite Engineering has developed an eight-channel satellite PBS solution enabling rigs to maintain communications when power fails in remote locations, the company announced at the 2008 Offshore Technology Conference in Houston.

The MCG-108 is an eight-channel gateway, making it seamless to switch from a regular PBX system to a satellite version. The servers forward incoming calls over the satellite PBX back into the office PBX without neither the call originator nor the recipient knowing the difference, Global Satellite said.

When combined with Global Satellite's in-house airtime software, SatCollect, users can use their local number anywhere in the world, paying at a local rate, avoiding expensive carrier fees when the system transfers from regular business operations to an emergency communication mode, according to Global Satellite.
