HOUSTON -- Representatives of the University of Aberdeen announced a new subsea skills initiative at the 2008 Offshore Technology Conference in Houston.

The Subsea Center of Excellence in northeast Scotland is a joint venture between industry and academia. The Universities of Aberdeen, Dundee, and the Robert Gordon University are collaborating on the project via the Northern Research Partnership.

The aims of the new center are to support the subsea sector and to meet future challenges in deep and ultra deepwater by developing specialist research, skills training, and education. The partnership is already recruiting research staff, academics and industry professionals for the center, including a new chair in subsea technologies at the University of Aberdeen.
