PARIS -- Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies (VWS) has been awarded a $40-million contract by FSTP to deliver sulfate reduction for Petrobras' semisubmersible production platform P56, to be moored in the Marlim Sul field in the Campos basin, offshore Brazil.

The contract is for the supply of a sulphate reduction process (SRP) package, which replicates theP51 project recently delivered by the partnership of VWS companies VWS Westgarth and VWS Brazil to FSTP.

The package uses a membrane-based system that removes sulphates and other divalent ions from the injection seawater to prevent the formation of barium sulphate and strontium sulphate scale forming in the subsea injection piping system and in the reservoir itself.
