Aker Solutions opens drilling risers facility in Brazil

Aker Solutions has opened Brazil's only manufacturing center for deepwater marine drilling risers.

OSLO -- Aker Solutions has opened Brazil's only manufacturing center for deepwater marine drilling risers. The center is located in Rio das Ostras, on the east coast of Brazil.

The facility, which has a 2,450-sq m (26,372-sq ft) workshop, will offer client services ranging from engineering and manufacturing to maintenance and technical support, the company says.

The first operations at the Rio das Ostras drilling riser facility started up in January 2008. The current projects being undertaken at the facility will supply deepwater marine drilling riser systems to Brazilian company Queiroz Galvão Oil and Gas. The scope of work includes the rigOlinda Star, which will operate in water depths up to 1,100 m (3,609 ft); the Gold Star, which will operate at depths up to 2,000 m (6,562 ft); and the Lone Star, which is capable of operating in water depths up to 2,400 m (7,874 ft).
