ABERDEEN, Scotland -- Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) and Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME), both of Korea, have awarded RDS contracts worth a combined total of over $4 million.
The contract from SHI is for the detailed design and engineering work of the drilling system and substructure of a Moss Maritime CS50M Mk II semisubmersible floating drilling rig, for the Russian oil and gas operator Gazflot. The hull is being built at the Vyborg shipyard in Russia and SHI is building the topsides.
DSME's contract is for the conceptual engineering of the drilling mud and bulk systems of a drillship for TMT of Taiwan, with the capability to drill to 12,000 m (39,370 ft) deep in water depths up to 3,600 m (11,811 ft).
