OTC: New drilling classification guide available from ABS

HOUSTON -- ABS has released its enhanced Guide for the Classification of Drilling Systems.

The classification society says the new version includes the most recent international offshore drilling practices and standards incorporating industry feedback. The Guide covers requirements for systems, subsystems, equipment and components from the wellhead to the top of the derrick, says ABS.

"This is a significant change in that we have moved from a component-based approach to a systems-based approach in terms of design reviews and Rule requirements," said Bret Montaruli, ABS vice president, Offshore Technology.
