Fabco Industries Ltd., located in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, and Consafe Engineering (UK) Ltd. of Aberdeen, Scotland, have formed a joint venture partnership. The two companies have jointly submitted a bid to Saipem in France for the Sable Tier II living quarters project.
"Saipem, the company that awarded the contract for the compression deck, approached us several months ago to submit a budget price for the living quarters component," says Richie Mann, VP business development for Fabco. "Saipem was seeking a Canadian firm with experience in building offshore living quarters, and we were contacted because of our involvement in the construction of accommodations for the Thebaud and Venture platforms of Sable Tier 1 in 1999."

Fabco said it chose to partner with Consafe because of the company's reputation as a world leader in the construction of modular accommodation units. "Consafe brings more than 30 years of experience to the table. Their expertise in engineering modular living quarters complements Fabco's local fabrication and assembly experience," says Mann.

Byron McKibben, sales and marketing director for Consafe agrees, "We believe that the Consafe-Fabco joint venture will be a winning combination to provide a first class living quarters tender to the Sable Island Project. This is an exciting opportunity for Consafe. We are able to support Fabco's indigenous and fast reacting engineering capability with Consafe's pioneering modular engineering technology."

The two companies are currently awaiting word on whether Exxon Mobil will include the living quarters as part of the compression deck.
