Petrobras has awarded 2H Offshore, a UWG Group company, a contract for the detail design of an 18-in. freestanding hybrid riser for the P51 production platform, which will be located in the Campos Basin offshore Brazil in 1,255 m of water.

The contract covers detailed analysis, hardware design, and specification, installation engineering, and technical support through manufacturing and installation phases.
The freestanding hybrid riser is considered an attractive solution for P51 because the diameter and depth combination is currently outside that of qualified flexible pipes and it provides payload savings over the more fatigue sensitive SCR.

"This is an important first for 2H in Brazil, which is an increasingly important market and a chance for us to further advance the freestanding riser technology," said Frank Lim, the 2H project manager. "The 18-inch riser is a larger diameter riser than those to be used in Angola, so we are opening ourselves to other design configurations and installation methods that best suit Petrobras."

The project will be conducted primarily out of London on a relatively fast track basis.
