Norsk Hydro has awarded Weatherford International Ltd.'s completion systems division (WCS) a $20 million, five year contract to supply single wire-wrap screens and liner hangers for the Grane field in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea.
Norsk Hydro has awarded the contract on behalf of the Grane partners as part of a larger contract that also includes Halliburton and Baker Oil Tools. WCS's Norwegian operation, based in Stavanger will deliver the contract.
"Norsk Hydro used e-based auctioning to determine the outcome of the tendering process, and we are delighted to have secured the supply of completion equipment, including sand screens, screen hangers, and liner hangers through this innovative procedure," said Jan Drechsler, WCS sand control manager, Scandinavia.
Norsk Hydro has planned 35 wells for Grane, with 27 producing oil, and is considering up to 16 for multi-lateral technology. The company anticipates first delivery in 4Q 2003. Currently there are 12 pre-drilled wells on Grane, which is west of Stavanger. Norsk Hydro will complete the field from a platform with a jacket substructure at 127.5 m water depth.
"We have options for annual extensions over an additional five-year period," said Drechsler, "and the potential for supplying a wider range of innovative equipment, depending on how the operations develop."
