Statoil AS awarded Halliburton AS's Pipeline and Process Services department a NOK 143 million precommissioning contract for the Langeled pipeline. The 1,200-km pipeline, which is 42 to 44 in. in diameter, will move gas from western Norway's Ormen Lange field to the UK.

"This project continues Halliburton's Pipeline and Process Services department's association with large pipeline projects and Statoil's RFO Group," said Jorunn Saetre, Halliburton's country vice president for Norway. "Though challenging, we look forward to providing solutions for success, such as mobilizing and coordinating the volume and diversity of equipment required on several sites."

Engineering design work will begin this year with the precommissioning phase in 2006 and 2007. The project includes pigging, hydrostatic testing, dewatering, and drying the pipeline from work locations onshore in the UK and Norway. Offshore work will occur on vessels and the Sleipner platform.

Statoil has contracted Hydro, Ormen Lange's development operator, for project execution of the Langeled transport system. The project organization is staffed with Statoil and Hydro personnel.
