Importing innovation from other fields
IIC is applying innovative technology from other industries to the offshore oil and gas market. The company has developed an autonomous device called the Micro Rig (above ). This is a 30 ft, 105 pound, re-programmable, intelligent, wireless tractor device that can enter a flowing well, perform a light workover function and return to surface. Another tool the company is working on is this crab-like device (right), which could perform a variety of seismic placement activities in deepwater and high-surf areas. These products were mislabeled in the December 1999 issue of Offshore.
