BJ Tubular Services has introduced the Conductor Torquing System, a new system that offers improved safety and operational efficiency when making up or breaking out conductor-threaded connections.
Effective make-up and break-out of threaded conductor connections are critical to the success of every conductor (pile) driving operation, the company says. With a spinner system that delivers 7,000 lb/ft, BJ's torquing system delivers torques of 150,000 lb/ft.

With its Conductor Torquing System, BJ Hammer Services says it offers a solution to every operator's conductor-threaded connection make-up and break-out needs. The system ensures that spinning and final make-up and break-out of threaded conductor connections are safer operations.
The torquing system increases efficiency and safety and is designed to operate remotely at extremely high torque levels, the company says.
"Because only one technician is required to operate the unit from a control unit at a distance, personnel aren't required to work in close proximity to the rotary table," Andy Penman, Hammer Services manager for BJ Tubular Services, says. "As a result, running costs are lower because fewer personnel are required, and working conditions are much safer."
To ensure that the pipe and its protective coating are never damaged, BJ designed its torquing system and spinner as non-marking systems.
In addition, the make-up system is consolidated into one unit, so there is no need to invest time and manpower to assemble the unit before carrying out a make-up or break-out operation.
