According to Torbjörn Persson, director of sales and marketing, LED technology offers numerous advantages over halogen lights, such as low energy consumption and an extremely long-life light source. This makes them highly cost-effective on, for example, offshore vessels.

Until now, LED light has not provided sufficient levels of white light. Sunnex claims to have surmounted this problem in the new range, which is powerful enough to emit white light on a par with that of the company’s existing halogen lights.

Recently, the company also launched a new model in its established HS range, a 20W halogen light with dimmer function and IP65 safety class. A red lens is available for night vision use. The light is well suited for application on ship bridges, says Persson.

Sunnex, which also supplies cabin lights, makes regular deliveries to newbuild vessels in the Far East through Glamox, the Norwegian lighting product supplier. “The feedback from Glamox is that there are no claims and no technical problems with our products,” says Persson. The products are also used offshore, one regular customer being Emtunga, the accommodation module contractor.

Some customers have specified Sunnex lights as standard for their vessels, including the tanker company Frederiet tanker company and Hummerfish Boats. The Swedish and Danish navies are regular buyers, and the company has also made deliveries for NASA’s space shuttle.

Persson highlights the combination of good materials and designs, which makes the products effective in providing light, and also robust and long-lasting. Light ergonomics is another key concept. “The quality, tone, strength and direction of light are of vital importance to the eye and how long it can work properly,” says Persson. “Therefore, it is as important to select the correct lighting and fittings as it is to have an ergonomic chair and the correct workbench height.”

The company therefore specializes in custom design lights. “We can provide delivery within one to two weeks, where required,” he adds.
