STAVANGER, Norway – Offshore telecommunications operator Tampnet has entered a collaboration with Microsoft.

Tampnet will integrate Microsoft Azure Private 5G core and Azure private Multi-edge Compute (MEC) capabilities into its services.

This will support owners of offshore installations adopting or implementing remote collaboration tools, wireless sensor technologies, robots, drones and UAVs in remote offshore environments vis LTE, 5G, and satellite access services.

It applies to fixed and mobile offshore rigs, platforms, wind farms and vessels.

Users will be able to analyze their IoT data locally, Tampnet added, with critical data also transmitted to shore to allow remote teams to optimize operations and decision making.

In addition, clients should benefit from enhanced security and up-to-date network functionality, supporting operational efficiency and optimizing asset performance.

Tampnet, formed in Stavanger in 2001, claims to own and operate the world’s largest offshore high- capacity communications network covering the North Sea and Gulf of Mexico, East Coast Canada, East Coast USA and Trinidad and Tobago.
