Surge in offshore rig tendering: December 2025 – February 2026

From December 2025 to February 2026, the offshore rig market witnessed a significant increase in the number of workdays tendered for both floaters and jackups. Over this period, operators tendered for more than 5,400 jackup workdays, with the bulk of the demand originating from the Middle East, followed by Southeast Asia and Northwest Europe. Simultaneously, over 7,500 workdays were tendered for floaters, with most of the work concentrated in the Indian Ocean, followed by South America and the US Gulf. Although these projects are not expected to commence in the near term, and in some cases might get delayed or cancelled, this could reflect a new upswing in future shallow-water and deepwater drilling campaigns.—S&P Global Energy

Readers predict limited offshore US wind development in near future

The Offshore editorial team polled its readers between Feb. 24 and March 9 about the future of US offshore wind over the next few years. The majority of respondents (40%) believe there will be limited development due to policy and market constraints, while another large chunk of the poll group (30%) believes there will be siginificant setbacks or stagnation. A smaller portion of our readers (16%) voted that there will be moderate progress despite challenges, and the remaining poll participants (11%) predict strong growth and expansion over the next four years.—Offshore staff
