(Brazil)-Brazil's federal energy company Petrobras recently reaffirmed plans to begin production of the Peroá-Cangoá gas fields by late October. The tentative date for start up of the $278 million project is set for the week of October 24-28, according to a spokesperson for Petrobras' Espirito Santo business unit, which is the basin where the gas fields lie.

While the PPR-1 platform is already in place in shallow water and connected to shore at the city of Linahres, the start of operations now depends on fine-tuning the gas plant at Cacimbas, where the gas will be taken for treatment.

Original plans have pegged production at 1.4 MMcm/d of gas and 1,000 b/d of condensates. The Peroá-Cangoá fields have combined reserves of 15 bcm of natural gas, which has been described as of "excellent quality" by the Espirito Santo spokesperson.
