Deepwater Operations and Topsides, Platforms & Hulls

The Topsides, Platforms & Hulls Conference & Exhibition and the Offshore Wind Summit were co-located with Deepwater Operations in Galveston, Texas, from Oct. 5-7, 2021.

For Deepwater Operations, Chet Molbert of Occidental received the Best Presentation award for “Creative Methanol Injection Line Repair.” Francisco Ruiz of Murphy Oil Corp. and Mark West of ABS Group won the Best Presenter award for “Strong Foundations for Reliable Operations.”

For Topsides, Platforms & Hulls, Michael Kinzel of QuarterNorth Energy received the Best Presentation award for “A Journey in Obsolescence: Upgrading Bullwinkle’s PLC.” Jeremy Hall of Wood won the Best Presenter award for “The Last Ax: True Digital Execution Starts with Process Data.”

For the Deepwater Operations/Topsides, Platforms & Hulls plenary sessions, Ivan Damnjanovic of Texas A&M University won the Best Presentation award for “Measuring and Improving Blended Project-Safety Culture in Operations of Offshore Oil and Gas Facilities.” Jason Mathews of BSEE won the Best Presenter award for “Highlights and Safety Trends of the Outer Continental Shelf of the GOM.”

The event will return to Galveston on Oct. 4-6, 2022.

People

Tullow Oil plc has appointed Phuthuma Nhleko as an independent non-executive director and chairman-designate. He will succeed Dorothy Thompson by the end of the year.

Ocean Power Technologies Inc. has acquired Marine Advanced Robotics Inc., a Richmond, California-based developer and manufacturer of autonomous surface vehicles.

GATE Energy has opened an office in Mexico City, GATE Mexico S.de R.L. de CV.

CRP Subsea has opened a manufacturing facility in Skelmersdale, Lancashire, UK.

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy has announced plans to build the first offshore wind turbine blade facility in the US. It has signed a long-term lease agreement with the Virginia Port Authority to develop more than 80 acres (32 hectares) at the Portsmouth Marine Terminal.

Technip Energies and Petronas have signed a heads of agreement establishing a strategic collaboration framework to accelerate development of carbon capture technologies. These include Petronas’ Rotating Pack Bed assisted cryogenic CO2 recovery technology (CryoMin), and membrane-based CO2 recovery technology (PN2).

Fugro has opened a remote operations center in India. This new regional facility will be known by the name ‘Drishti’, the Sanskrit word for ‘vision’.

IKM Testing AS has purchased 70% of the shares in Alfa Solution AS, with an option to acquire the remaining 30%. Alfa Solution AS has changed its name to IKM Alfa Solution AS.

International Hellenic University is investing more than €1 million ($1.1 million) in a new simulator training facility to support the oil and gas industry. The facility, which is said to be the first of its kind in Greece, includes the latest simulator technology from Drilling Systems. This technology provides an immersive virtual-reality-based learning experience to enhance understanding of oil and gas drilling and well control operations and produce ‘work-ready’ graduates.

Reel Power Oil & Gas has changed its name to Reel Power Marine & Energy

Gazprom and Petrofac have formed a partnership to export and promote the standards of the Russian energy industry domestically and internationally. Under the five-year memorandum of cooperation, the two parties will collaborate on industry standardization initiatives as Russia’s energy sector invites international companies to assist its expansion domestically and overseas.

TechnipFMC has completed its acquisition of the outstanding shares of composite pipe developer Magma Global.

Rockwash Geodata has entered a collaboration agreement with Earth Science Analytics. They plan to jointly offer their services to transform large quantities of unused oil and gas data into digital assets.
