People

The Royal Dutch Shell plc board of directors has appointed Sir Andrew Mackenzie as chair, effective May 18, 2021. The company also has appointed Catherine Hughes as chair of the Safety Environment and Sustainability Committee and Dick Boer as a member of the Nomination and Succession Committee. Both appointments are effective on May 19, 2021.

Mubadala Petroleum has appointed Mansoor Mohamed Al Hamed as CEO.

The OKEA board of directors has appointed Svein J. Liknes as CEO, effective June 1, 2021.

Michael Angelakis, Jeffrey Ubben, and Tan Sri Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin have joined the ExxonMobil board of directors.

Norwegian Energy Co. ASA has appointed John Hulme as COO.

Brent Konstanzer has succeeded Rick Hall as president and CEO of SOFEC Inc.

Company News

ExxonMobil has established a new business to commercialize its low-carbon technology portfolio. Initially, ExxonMobil Low Carbon Solutions will focus on carbon capture and storage. The new operation is currently working on opportunities for more than 20 new carbon capture and storage projects worldwide that could deliver large-scale emission reductions, as the company contemplates spending $3 billion on lower emission energy solutions through 2025.

Ocean Power Technologies Inc. (OPT) has acquired 3Dent Technology LLC, an offshore energy engineering and design services company based in Houston. 3Dent Technology will operate under its current brand name as a wholly owned subsidiary of OPT.

Kentech Group has agreed to acquire the oil and gas business of SNC-Lavalin Group Inc. The deal should go through during the first half of 2021 subject to regulatory approvals and other conditions.

Forum Energy Technologies (FET) has entered into a partnership with Deepsea Technologies Equipamentos Industriais Ltda to represent its operations in Brazil. The partnership will see Deepsea Technologies provide business development and engineering support on behalf of FET in Brazil. It will also deliver full servicing, repair, calibration, upgrades and modifications for FET ROVs and associated tooling. The company will also have responsibility for the repair and calibration of FET torque machines.

Shell, C3 AI, Baker Hughes, and Microsoft have launched the Open AI Energy Initiative. Their goal is to provide a framework for energy operators, service providers, equipment providers, and software vendors for energy services to offer interoperable solutions – including artificial intelligence and physics-based models, monitoring, diagnostics, prescriptive actions, and services, powered by the BHC3 AI Suite and Microsoft Azure.

Blue Logic has formed Subsea USB AS to provide its underwater inductive connectors to the subsea industry. Product rights, technology, and patents of the connectors were previously owned jointly with Kristiansand-based Wireless Power and Communication.

Baker Hughes and Akastor ASA have agreed to create a 50/50 joint venture company for offshore drilling equipment. The company will bring together Baker Hughes’ Subsea Drilling Systems business with Akastor’s wholly owned subsidiary MHWirth AS. The closing of the transaction is subject to customary conditions, including regulatory approvals, and is expected to occur in the second half of 2021.

Fugro has opened new marine chemistry and biology laboratories at the Heriot-Watt University Research Park in Scotland. These are equipped to analyze environmental contaminants in marine sediments, biota and water, from background trace levels to more contaminated sources.

3D at Depth Inc. has launched an offshore Geophysical Survey Services division. The new division will provide surveys to support both nearshore, inshore, and offshore deepwater development activities focused in the areas of offshore wind farms, pipeline routes, environmental site surveys, offshore hydrocarbon projects, and civil engineering surveys.

CHC Group LLC has entered into a conditional agreement to acquire Babcock International Group’s Oil and Gas aviation business. The deal, which is subject to pre-closing conditions, is expected to be completed in 2Q 2021.

Expro Group and Frank’s International have entered a definitive agreement to combine in an all-stock transaction. It is expected to close in the quarter ending Sept. 30, 2021, subject to approval by Frank’s and Expro shareholders and customary closing conditions, including required regulatory approvals. Upon closing, the combined company will assume the Expro Group name and retain the Frank’s brand name for its well construction solutions.

Aramark Offshore has secured a new five-year contract with Total E&P UK to provide services across the UK continental shelf. The company will deliver catering, cleaning, laundry, janitorial services, maintenance, emergency response and heli-deck services across six platforms. The company will take over services on board the Culzean, FSO Ailsa, FPSO Gryphon, and provide critical accommodation maintenance across a number of Total E&P sites. The contract will also see it support the Elgin Franklin shutdown in 2021.

3t Energy Group has agreed to acquire Petrofac’s UK training centers. The package includes Petrofac’s survival and marine, health and safety, fire, and major emergency management capability and facilities in Scotland.

Neptune Energy has contracted NHV Group to provide helicopter transport to support the Seagull field development in the UK central North Sea. Under an initial 18-month agreement, the H175 flights will depart from NHV’s base in Aberdeen to take passengers to the drilling rig.

AqualisBraemar LOC has an agreement to acquire geoscience consultancy East Point Geo.

Ocean Infinity has acquired MMT, a marine survey and data analytics provider.

Twin Brothers Marine has received the American Institute of Steel Construction conditional certification for its facility in Louisa, Louisiana.

Cudd Well Control has entered into an alliance agreement with Worldwide Facilities, LLC.

TWMA is relocating its global headquarters to the Aberdeen International Business Park (Building 3) in Dyce.

GATE Energy has moved to a 35-acre office campus in the Houston Energy Corridor.

Sandvik said it will invest in a new hydraulic and instrumentation tubing factory at its Mehsana Mill in Gujarat, western India. It is expected to be fully completed and operational by early 2023.
