OSLO, NorwayEquinor has the go-ahead from the Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority to proceed with two exploratory wells.

Seadrill’s semisubmersibleWest Hercules should start work on well 7335/3-1 in the southeast Barents Sea in early May.

The 55-day program will target the Korpfjell Deep prospect in production license 859, in the far northeast of this newly opened area, 420 km (261 mi) from the coast of Finnmark. Water depth is 239 m (784 ft).

In the North Sea, the semisubTransocean Spitsbergen should spud well 16/5-7 in mid-May on PL 502, northwest of the Utsira High region.

The location is southwest ofJohan Sverdrup and northeast of Sleipner, in a water depth of around 105 m (344 ft).

Operations should last for 28 days.
