MAPUTO, Mozambique – Eni and its partners in Area 4 offshore Mozambique have secured LNG offtake commitments from affiliated buyer entities for the Rovuma LNG project.

A final investment decision should follow this year for the first-phase development, which will produce, liquefy, and market natural gas from the deepwater Mamba fields in the Area 4 block in the Rovuma basin.

Other participants are ExxonMobil, Eni, CNPC, Mozambique’s Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos, Kogas, and Galp.

The offtake commitments remain subject to the conclusion of fully-termed agreements, due to be finalized over the next few weeks, and the approval of Mozambique’s government.

ExxonMobil will manage construction and operation of natural gas liquefaction and associated facilities on behalf of the partners, with Eni responsible for construction and operation of the upstream facilities.

The two first-phase trains will each produce 7.6 MMt/yr of LNG.
